Kenzo’s Spring 2018 Show Featured 100 Asian Models

The show also featured live performances by a bungee dancing troupe and Lafawandah. Inspired by Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and model Sayoko Yamaguchi, Kenzo showed its men's and women's spring 2018 collections in Paris last night featuring a cast comprised exclusively of models of Asian descent in Kenzo’s Spring 2018 Show.

"We celebrate two muses, one who represents the modern view of the house and one from its past," designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon wrote in the show notes of the inspirations. "For both collections we aim to capture the duality of the two figures, we look to the era when they both ruled two distant continents; to Ryuichi's personal flair when questioning the norm, and to Sayoko's ability to mix patterns, prints, silhouettes, and colors."

On Sunday, Kenzo presented its joint men's and women's Spring 2018 collection — titled "The Red String of Fate" — at the Lycée Camille Sée in Paris as a two-act play, with each part dedicated to one of Takada's muses. The first, "Building the Bamboo House," drew inspiration from Japanese composer and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, the man behind the soundtracks of such films as "The Last Emperor" and "The Revenant."

In total there were 83 models, many having been flown in specifically from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan especially for the show.
